The Last Five Races

Fernando Alonso has scored 25 points in the last five races. One point less than Lewis Hamilton (26) and two more than Felipe Massa and Heikki Kovalainen (23). Kimi Raikkonen ONLY scored 6 points in five races (0 points in the last four races). TOO POOR for the defending World Champion.

The thing is that FA drives a poor R28, whereas the other four guys drive a brilliant MP4-23 or a splendid F2008. And I ask you dear friends:
  1. How many points would FA have if he drove one of these cars?
  2. What must Luca Cordero di Montezemolo be thinking about having FA instead of KR or FM?
  3. Where are BMW's duo now?
  4. How can anyone think that FA could sign with Honda?
  5. Why BMW announced today that it'll keep Heifeld in 2009?
And my answers are:
  1. Enough points to lead the championship.
  2. 2010, 2010, 2010, 2010, ...
  3. Missing?
  4. Silly boooys
  5. Because FA will switch to Ferrari in 2010.

My answers, in the "maƱo" tradition:

1. How many points would FA have if he drove one of these cars?

Does he have Massa's pit crew or Lewis as a team-mate?

Furthermore, how many points would Vettel, Glock, etc. would have if they were driving one of those cars?

2. What must Luca Cordero di Montezemolo be thinking about having FA instead of KR or FM?

I think having FA in KR's seat might be good for Ferrari now, but it is a big gamble. Fernando has proven himself to be quite toxic. What if Felipe Massa starts the season stronger than Alonso (quite possible, considering Felipe's familiarity with the car) and Alonso starts "misbehaving"? What happens if you spend a considerable amount of resources working around Alonso and he decides to leave (he has left a team *after* winning the championship)?

I'm quite certain Ferrari has had the opportunity to sign Alonso, yet they haven't. As a Ferrari fan, I hope they don't take decisions based solely on a few races' worth of results.

3. Where are BMW's duo now?

Good question! I believe the car is now in a relatively worse situation than before, they have good but not excellent drivers and the last races have been a random affair- and they've had bad luck.

Still, a very poor streak for them.

4. How can anyone think that FA could sign with Honda?

It's one of his best options. They have money, they can have him as absolute #1 (McLaren has Lewis, Ferrari has a world-champion- and possibly two by the end of season)- which is something that Alonso evidently needs and they have Ross Brawn.

Plus, it's wishful thinking; the championship would be much more interesting.

5. Why BMW announced today that it'll keep Heifeld in 2009?

Probably they are betting in Kubica as #1, Heidfeld as #2; Heidfeld has proven himself a reliable driver; this championship he only has 5 results worse than P6 and has finished all races.

My notes about the championship:

Massa has had two engine failures (one while he was leading the race, probably costing him 10 points) and a pit problem, which maybe wasn't really his problem. This only leaves him with two mistakes this season, on Great Britain and Malaysia. He's the racer that has won more races this year and scored more poles (tied with Lewis), he's doing much better than a World Champion in the same car, he's driving a car with reportedly awful wet/cold performance.

Give him P1 in Hungary and Singapore and he would be leading the championship by 15 points...
